Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a common eye condition that causes damage to the macula, a small area near the center of the retina. This damage can result in blurred or distorted vision, and in severe cases, can lead to permanent vision loss. AMD is more common in people over the age of 50, and risk factors include smoking, obesity, and a family history of the condition. It is important to have regular eye exams to detect and manage glaucoma.
Diabetic Related Eye Exams
Diabetic-related eye exams are essential for individuals with diabetes. High blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels in the eyes, leading to vision loss or blindness. It is recommended that individuals with diabetes get a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. During the exam, the eye doctor will check for signs of diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. Early detection and treatment of these conditions can prevent further damage to the eyes and preserve vision.
